H0110006 MALIBOG NA LANDLORD NA BISTO ANG MODUS (TBON) part2

An upcoming brand in the Philippines, OMODA, brought us to Auto Shanghai 2023 to witness the launch of the OMODA 5 EV, the electric version of the model that it plans to launch in the country later this year. While the non-EV version looks futuristic enough as it is, the model that was launched marks the subsidiary brand’s foray into the future of mobility.

For now, the model remains a future product. OMODA stated that the EV crossover is still not yet ready for prime time, but its gasoline-only counterpart is already on the way to making its rounds in other territories.

While the Philippines is still waiting for the OMODA 5 to make landfall, the EV version of the crossover seems to be an interesting development from OMODA, not because it was surprising, but because it keeps true to the message of the OMODA brand which is progressive and future-thinking. The model is still not yet in its final production spec, since parts of the interior were clearly put there for Auto Shanghai, but overall we can come to expect some very premium amenities from this electrified crossover, as well as OMODA’s suite of advanced driving assistance and safety features.

Being an EV, it moves away from the standard OMODA 5 design, and goes into a sleeker shape, opting away from the mesh grille of the former in favor of something that is more fitting for an aerodynamic EV. The EV version of the OMODA 5 has largely the same design hardpoints that we’ve come to expect, with headlights positioned lower in the front, and DRL/indicators positioned high that give it an aggressive stare. The rear is also similar in setup to the standard combustion version, but without exhaust pipes, of course.

Following that, it appears that OMODA has chosen a different set of materials for this model, opting to go with wood trim that emphasizes its eco friendly nature. These materials are also complimented by the soft synthetic leather seats that feel more like nubuck or suede rather than plasticky leatherette. This is all on top of the OMODA 5’s progressive interior design with a slim dashboard, and a floating center console that adds a bit of futurism and a ton of interior storage space at the same time.

As for the powertrain of the OMODA 5 EV, we can expect a power figure of 201 hp from its 64 kilowatt-hour battery, as well as 400 Nm of torque. The manufacturer estimated range is around 450 km, and the OMODA product team has also opted for a DC fast charging system on this vehicle, which allows it to charge from 0 to 80 percent in just 40 minutes. Using an AC charging system will take five hours to bring it from dead to full with the manufacturer-recommended charger.

Pricing and availability of this unit in the Philippines remain a mystery, as is the exact launch date for the OMODA brand in the country, but so far so good as we’re impressed with the backbone that OMODA has as it’s currently able to produce a product like the OMODA 5 EV. Perhaps this model may make an appearance when the brand gains a foothold in the Philippines, but that is yet to be seen.
