Making good on their promise last week that they are introducing a new crossover, Toyota has officially launched the 2024 Yaris Cross in Indonesia a crossover version of the Yaris hatchback. The 2024 Yaris Cross for the ASEAN market is different from the TNGA-based Yaris Cross you’ll find in Europe and Japan, this Yaris Cross is built on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture that underpins the Raize, Veloz, Avanza, and new AC100 Vios.
The Yaris Cross for the ASEAN market is designed to cater to those seeking a crossover that falls in between the size of the Raize and the Corolla Cross. Aside from providing a third way between the Raize and Corolla Cross, the new Yaris Cross provides a flexible option for propulsion as it comes available in both traditional petrol-powered vehicles and a hybrid powertrain.

The vehicle is built with a chiseled and muscular form greatly complemented by striking character lines, giving it a captivating aura. Reminiscent of the current Corolla Cross, the front fascia features a trapezoidal grille, complemented by wraparound LED headlights, sleek foglight bezels, and a sporty front bumper. In the looks department, the Yaris Cross has nothing to worry about.

At 4310mm long, 1770 mm wide, and 1615 mm tall, with a 2620 mm wheelbase, in terms of size, the Yaris Cross definitely slots under the Corolla Cross. Inside the Yaris Cross’ interior is a familiar sight with its dashboard style. Behind the wheel, drivers are fed information through a 7-inch digital TFT cluster display, beside it is a large 10.1-inch infotainment screen placed dead center. Other features inside the Yaris Cross include a power tailgate, power adjust seats, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless charging pad, a 360-degree camera, ambient lighting, and a choice between fabric or leather upholstery.
Safety features in the Yaris Cross include a suite of airbags, anti-lock brakes with EBD, brake assist, blind-spot monitoring, ESP, and Toyota Safety Sense. Two powertrain options are available for the 2024 Yaris Cross, The first option in the duo is a 1.5-liter 2NR-VE non-turbocharged, four-pot engine. This engine puts out 105 hp and 138 Nm of torque which can be paired with a CVT or five-speed manual transmission.
The hybrid version of the Yaris Cross has a 1.5-liter 2N-VEX engine. On its own, the engine makes 90 hp and 121 Nm of torque. Once paired with an electric motor, the engine gets an extra 79 hp with 141 Nm of torque. This powertrain is paired with a CVT and is assisted by a lithium-ion battery pack.
No official price for the Yaris Cross has been released but we can expect that it will make its way through the ASEAN region starting in Indonesia. Since the Yaris Cross has just been unveiled, we’ll have to wait a bit of time before the Yaris Cross makes it to the Philippines. That is if Toyota Motor Philippines is even considering bringing it here.
