Toyota has unveiled the Trueno Edition of its 2024 GR86 sports car, paying homage to the iconic AE86 Sprinter Trueno from the 1980s. This special edition model features a two-tone color scheme, unique badges, and interior enhancements. Additionally, Toyota has introduced an additional suite of performance upgrades for the GR86 Trueno Edition as well, along with several new features and updates that will be incorporated for the upcoming model year.
The Trueno Edition is offered in white or red and can be paired with either the standard six-speed manual transmission or the optional six-speed automatic. It boasts a distinct aesthetic with a black hood, side stripes, a duckbill spoiler, and black accents on the door handles and mirrors. Trueno badges adorn the front and rear, while a special number plate on the dashboard signifies its exclusivity as one of only 860 units available exclusively in the U.S. market. Inside, the cabin is adorned with red leather accents, red stitching, and Trueno logos on the shift knob and floor mats.

The new Performance package, which comes standard on the Trueno Edition and is optional for upcoming GR86 models, enhances the car’s driving dynamics. It includes Sachs dampers and Brembo brakes with larger rotors compared to the standard model. The front rotors measure 325 mm, while the rear rotors measure 315 mm, providing improved stopping power. Toyota plans to offer this package as a dealer-installed option and even as a retrofit for current owners of 2022 and 2023 GR86 models equipped with 18-inch wheels.
In terms of safety and convenience features, manual-transmission GR86 models now come with a range of driver-assist systems previously exclusive to automatic-transmission variants. Adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and other features are now available for stick-shift enthusiasts.
Although the chances of Toyota Motor Philippines bringing the GR86 Trueno Edition are nearly zero, considering that it is only exclusive to the US market, we do hope that we get the performance upgrades, whether as a variant or an option.
