Nissan Philippines has now confirmed that the updated Almera will be making its debut on July 10, 2023, so Nissan is still keen on participating in the subcompact wars locally.
Taking inspiration from its debut in Thailand, the Philippine version of the Almera is expected to receive similar design enhancements. The most notable change is seen in the front, where the brand’s signature V-motion grille has been enlarged and made more aggressive. Naturally, this redesign also necessitated modifications to the front bumper. Additionally, the 2023 Almera sports the new Nissan logos, which can also be found inside the vehicle, as well as refreshed alloy wheels.
Inside the cabin, the 2023 Almera replaces the previous two-tone black and white theme with a more understated black and blue color scheme. The Nissan Connect Services will be available in the Philippine market. This feature, being the first of its kind in the country, enables users to monitor and control certain aspects of the car using their smartphones. In Thailand, it even allows emergency services to be called via a dedicated button on the overhead console. There is a possibility that additional features such as wireless device charging and heat-reflecting seats called Quole Modure may also be introduced in the Philippine market.
For its powertrain, the updated Almera will retain the same engine. The HRA0 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine continues to deliver 100 hp and 152 Nm of torque. The only change for the 2023 model is the inclusion of cruise control for the continuously variable transmission (CVT).

In terms of safety, if the Thai version is any indication, the Almera is likely to receive significant improvements. It is expected to come standard with a comprehensive suite of six SRS airbags and advanced driver assistance technologies such as forward collision warning with emergency braking, blind spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert. In Thailand, the Almera also offers tire pressure sensors, lane departure warning, and high-beam assist.
Prior to this update, Nissan Philippines discontinued the top-of-the-line Almera VL Turbo N-Sport trim. However, there are hopes that the fully-loaded variant may make a comeback. We will find out on July 10, 2023.
