Electric Vehicles (EVs) are slowly being integrated worldwide, thanks to a growing number of charging infrastructures and the addition of more EV models from mainstream manufacturers. Here in the Philippines, we’re still in the process of warming up to electric vehicles and are not yet capable of supporting a full-on transition from internal combustion engines (ICE) to EVs. Despite this, the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) recognizes the benefits that EVs provide and are presenting them through the Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS), a yearly event that provides an opportunity for both foreign and local players to showcase their latest EV models, battery and charging technologies, and other innovative products and solutions.
As the Philippines is making an effort to expedite the adoption of electric vehicles, the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP), in collaboration with the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) and Nissan Phillipines Inc. (NPI), will organize the 11th edition of the Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit. The event is scheduled to take place from October 19 to 21, 2023 at the SMX Convention Center Manila, located in Pasay City

The 11th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit will be held a year after the enactment of Republic Act No. 11697, also known as the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA). Highlighting this milestone, EVAP President Edmund Araga emphasized the positive developments that followed, saying, “Following its enactment, the national government also approved an Executive Order temporarily removing import duties on completely built-up units of EVs for five years.”

The 11th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit will be held a year after the enactment of Republic Act No. 11697, also known as the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA). Moreover, Araga acknowledged the Department of Energy’s (DOE) release of the Comprehensive Roadmap for the Electric Vehicle Industry (CREVI). This roadmap envisions the growth of a robust domestic EV industry, with the potential for exporting EVs and a stronger nationwide push for EV adoption. Various government agencies, including the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), are also actively providing support to drive the advancement of the EV industry.
In addition, Araga announced the establishment of the Philippine Battery Consortium, an initiative aimed at encouraging collaboration among industry players from the Philippines and other ASEAN countries. The consortium will focus on developing alternative battery components utilizing locally available minerals. By doing so, it aims to address the price impact of batteries on the overall price of EVs.
During the event, attendees can participate in learning sessions that delve into successful implementations of various aspects of the electric vehicle (EV) industry in different countries. These sessions will cover topics such as the development of EV supply chains, the establishment of electrified ride-hailing services, the implementation of green logistics solutions, the operation of e-bus services and e-taxi fleets, as well as safety considerations in EV operations, battery manufacturing, and servicing.
Lastly, the summit will honor individuals and institutions that have made significant contributions to the advancement and promotion of electric mobility in the transport sector of the Philippines. These advocates will be recognized and celebrated through the E-mobility Awards, acknowledging their efforts in driving the adoption of EVs and most importantly, sustainable transport.
