Nissan’s iconic Skyline nameplate might be making a comeback, with a potential twist. Having once housed the prestigious GT-R badge, the Skyline transitioned into being essentially Infiniti-branded vehicles in the United States. In recent times, the Skyline sedan was essentially rebadged as the Infiniti Q50. Additionally, there was a Skyline Crossover variant that also existed in the past.
Now, it seems that the Skyline Crossover might be making a return in a new form. Reports from Japan’s Best Car suggest that Nissan is contemplating the launch of an all-electric crossover under the Skyline nameplate. This strategy wouldn’t be unprecedented, as other car manufacturers have successfully revived their legacy nameplates for electric crossovers before.
According to the sources, the revived Skyline Crossover is likely to be built upon Nissan’s Ariya CMF-EV platform, possibly featuring a dual-motor e-4orce powertrain. However, the future of the Skyline remains somewhat uncertain, as mixed information has been received regarding its revival. Nonetheless, if it does come back, it would align with the ongoing trend in the automotive industry to transition toward electric mobility.
Drawing parallels, Ford’s Mustang Mach-E provides a potential model for Nissan to follow in reimagining its performance icon. Though, it’s worth noting that there are doubts about the Skyline making its way to the US, as it might arrive with an Infiniti badge instead.
