Roughly 47 percent of the 2023 Toyota GR Supras that have been purchased in the United States come equipped with manual transmissions, according to a statement provided by a Toyota representative to Road & Track magazine. This statistic translates to a total of 1216 GR Supras that have been sold since the introduction of the manual transmission option for the 2023 model year.
Originally unveiled in 2019, the GR Supra was not initially designed to include a manual transmission option. However, due to fervent requests from automotive enthusiasts, Toyota decided to invest efforts into creating a manual gearbox for the vehicle.
This manual transmission, featuring six speeds, borrows its casing design from the BMW 3 Series while incorporating the gearing mechanism from the M3. In an exclusive interview conducted by Road & Track, the vehicle’s engineers disclosed these intricate details. Furthermore, the manual setup incorporates an entirely new linkage and shifter, along with Toyota’s proprietary i-MT rev-matching software. To accommodate the manual shifter, adjustments have been made to the center console layout. Additionally, the final gear ratio within the differential has been modified from 3.15 to 3.46.
