H2809010 Waiter, Ayaw Asikasuhin ang Costumer na Mahirap! part2

At the 2023 IAA Mobility in Munich, Volkswagen presented the future of its GTI hot hatches in a zero-emission world. Called the ID. GTI Concept, this car will be delivering hot hatch fun and performance with an electric drivetrain. Based on the ID. 2all concept unveiled earlier this year, the ID. GTI Concept is also inspired by the brand’s iconic Golf GTI hatchback hence the similarities in looks and overall shape.

In terms of looks, the concept car carries sportier front and rear fascias, accompanied by wheels that take design cues from the classic Mk1 GTI. The taillights have been given a darker tint, and a sleek wing atop the hatch is matched with the black window trim. The grille has also been blacked out with vibrant red accents, and GTI branding is studded throughout the design.

Inside, a host of references to the classic Golf GTIs can be found, evoking a sense of nostalgia with its retro-inspired cabin. To begin with, the seat fabric, aptly named “Jack-e,” subtly pays homage to the iconic Jacky plaid upholstery seen in the Mk6 GTI. The rest of the inside is futuristic, the instrument cluster is a large square screen in front of an also square steering wheel. Following the design cues of the exterior, the interior is bathed in a red hue, from the buttons all the way down to the foot pedals.

At this moment, Volkswagen has not mentioned any specifics about the powertrain aside from confirming that it will be using a single-motor, high-performance powertrain equipped with an electronic differential lock for the front wheels. A feature present in the gasoline-powered GTIs of today.

So when will this car enter production? CEO Thomas Schäfer has revealed to both Autocar and Top Gear that a road-ready version is scheduled to make its debut in 2026 and will be available for purchase in early 2027. There’s a bit of time between here and 2027 which means fans of the GTI can settle the debate if an electric-powered hot hatch is worthy of the GTI name.
