It’s been a while since we’ve seen a new CR-V from Honda, and while the old one was the first diesel-powered model from Big H, for the 2024 year model, the CR-V gets a monumental update as it finally gets a hybrid powertrain.
Now more than ever, it’s hard to deny the appeal of an electrified vehicle. With the current EVIDA law perks in place, it’s high time that Honda fielded a hybrid vehicle. What better model to do that with than the venerable and ever-comfortable CR-V? In the previous model year, the seven-seat crossover got a diesel engine which was a first for the nameplate and the brand in the Philippines. That “first” was short-lived, however, lasting only for one generation. Now moving into the 2024 model year, Honda is looking at another first for the nameplate, in the form of a gasoline-powered 2.0-liter hybrid powertrain. This powertrain will be exclusive to the RS e:HEV trim, the new top-of-the-line offering in the CR-V lineup.

Honda’s hybrid technology is called e:HEV, and the engine train in the CR-V includes a 2.0-liter four-cylinder naturally-aspirated Atkinson cycle gasoline engine paired with a system of electric motors that produce 146 hp and 183 Nm of torque from the engine alone. With help from the electric system, power and torque are boosted to 181 hp and 335 Nm of torque.

Under the top-spec e:HEV trim will be gasoline-only trims. The V and the VX variants will be powered by a four-cylinder 1.5-liter turbo engine that produces 187 hp and 240 Nm of torque, just about enough to get the compact crossover up to speed on the open road. If this engine seems familiar, that’s because it’s in the same family as the Honda Civic and the HR-V, but uprated for the bigger and weightier CR-V.
Both engine options will be mated to a continuously variable transmission, CVT for the gasoline but designated e-CVT in the hybrid. In the case of the V variant, it’s available in two-wheel drive (2WD), and the VX and RS e:HEV will be available with all-wheel-drive (AWD).

As for the interior, we can expect the new and updated interior design language that is shared between all of the new Hondas that have come out in recent years like the Civic and the all-new City with Honda SENSING. The interior is cleaned up from the last model with straighter lines and more modern textures that make for a classy cabin all throughout.
Speaking of Honda SENSING and other features, the CR-V continues its streak of offering some of the latest safety tech that Big H has to offer, and all variants from the base to the top will come with Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation System with Lane Departure Warning (RDM with LDW), Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow (ACC with LCF), and Lead Car Departure Notification System (LCDN). The RS-exclusive feature in the Honda SENSING suite, however, is the Auto High Beam (AHB) and for the first time Adaptive Driving Beam (ADB), which is an intelligent LED headlight that helps enhances visibility as well as adjusting the height of the light beam to avoid dazzling the car in front and pedestrians.
On top of that, Honda CONNECT is a new headlining feature in the 2024 CR-V, and it allows users to connect to their car check its status, and even get alerts from it. Honda CONNECT ties in with the CR-V’s SENSING safety features like Collision Detection, Speed Alert, and Security Alarm Detection that sends timely notifications to the owner’s smartphone should one of the systems be triggered. Furthermore, Honda CONNECT comes with Find My Car, Geofencing Alert, Emergency Call, Car Status, Remote Vehicle Control, and Service Reminder.
Apart from that, the other notable features in the 2024 Honda CR-V include a nine-inch touchscreen audio system with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with an eight-speaker audio system. A wireless charger is also available for the interior to complement the wireless CarPlay and Android Auto.

As for the launch price list of the model, it goes as follows:
- 2.0 RS e:HEV E-CVT – P 2,590,000 (five-seater)
- 1.5 VX Turbo CVT AWD – P2,280,000 (seven-seater)
- 1.5 V Turbo CVT – P2,100,000 (seven-seater)
Honda has raised the bar with its compact crossover. Still a three-row seater except for its hybrid trim, still practical as ever, the model will continue to live in the Philippine market, albeit now with a hybrid powertrain that’ll hopefully spark a fire under the rest of the lineup in the future.
