H2809004 BABAERO (Philanderer) english part2

A few weeks ago, the Philippine automotive news sector was abuzz with anticipation as Hyundai Motor Philippines (HMPH) hinted at an upcoming launch. The speculation surrounding this launch has been centered on the mysterious Custo or Custin model. The excitement has only intensified with recent news that the Custo/Custin has made its debut in the ASEAN region.

Hyundai Vietnam took the lead in introducing this new addition to the Hyundai family. The star of the show is a five-door, seven-seater minivan known as the Custo/Custin. This minivan had its initial debut in China in 2021 and subsequently found its way to Taiwan.

One of the first things that catch the eye about the Custo/Custin is its striking resemblance to the Hyundai Tuscon, featuring styling cues that align with Hyundai’s Sensuous Sportiness design language. However, it still retains that unmistakable modern Hyundai aesthetic that has become synonymous with the brand.

As a minivan, the Custo/Custin boasts a spacious 2-2-3 passenger layout, with captain seats gracing the second row. It’s evident that Hyundai has its sights set on a more upscale market, as the interior is laden with luxury touches and design elements that exude sophistication and opulence.

Under the hood, the Chinese version of the Custo/Custin is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged Smartstream-G inline-four engine, delivering 170 hp and 253 Nm of torque. It pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission. For those seeking even more power, there’s a 2.0-liter turbocharged unit generating an impressive 236 hp and 353 Nm of torque.

While the specific specifications and powertrains for the model’s ASEAN debut remain a mystery, the rumor mill suggests a launch date sometime in October 2023. This news has piqued the interest of those curious to see if the Custo/Custin will step into the ring as a contender against established minivans like the Toyota Alphard and Kia Carnival.

Hyundai’s foray into the minivan market with the Custo/Custin is generating considerable excitement and speculation in the Philippine automotive community. With its eye-catching design, luxurious interior, and potentially robust powertrains, it has the potential to make a significant impact in the segment. As we eagerly await its official debut, all eyes are on Hyundai to see if this new entrant will redefine the minivan experience in the ASEAN market.
