Nissan is set to introduce a groundbreaking all-electric minivan concept known as the Hyper Tourer at this month’s Japan Mobility Show. While minivans have seen a decline in popularity, with crossovers and SUVs dominating the family car market, the emergence of an all-electric minivan hints at a resurgence in this segment, thanks to the unique packaging capabilities offered by electric vehicles.
The Hyper Tourer is a prime example of this innovative approach, featuring a flat floor and a spacious cabin, made possible by Nissan’s EV Technology Vision. This visionary packaging strategy lowers the minivan’s center of gravity, consolidating components and incorporating solid-state batteries. Notably, this layout opens the door to modern camper van possibilities, harnessing the spaciousness and versatility EVs offer.
The interior of the Hyper Tourer concept is designed to revolutionize the minivan experience. The front seats can swivel 360 degrees, promoting interaction among passengers. Rear-seat occupants have control over navigation and audio via a wearable display. The cabin’s aesthetics are enriched by an overhead console with traditional Japanese patterns and a flat LED panel on the floor displaying images of a riverbed and the sky. Furthermore, the minivan employs an AI system to monitor biometric data, adjusting lighting and music based on the passengers’ physiological cues.
While specific details about the powertrain remain scarce, the Hyper Tourer will boast Nissan’s e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive system and solid-state batteries, which is similar to the Nissan Ariya.
Aesthetically, the Hyper Tourer doesn’t disappoint. Its exterior design is characterized by striking sheet metal, with sharp creases along the sides converging toward the rear. A white waistline distinguishes the body from the greenhouse, providing an elegant boundary between glass and metal. The minivan’s sporty appearance is accentuated by its upright front end, raked windshield, and an integrated spoiler.
The Nissan Hyper Tourer is just one of three exciting concepts set to debut at the Japan Mobility Show 2023, previously known as the Tokyo Motor Show, commencing on October 25, 2023.
