Hyundai is celebrating Disney’s 100th anniversary by introducing a special edition model. Unveiled as a concept at the 2023 New York Auto Show, the IONIQ 5 Disney100 Platinum Edition has now transitioned into a production model, making its debut during the broadcast of Dancing with the Stars on October 17, 2023.
This electric hatchback is the product of a collaborative effort between the South Korean automaker and the Walt Disney Company. Some of the distinctive features of this car include a Gravity Gold matte exterior finish, wheels that draw inspiration from Disney’s mascot, Mickey Mouse, Disney100 exterior badging and seat logos, Disney-inspired front and rear door trim strip, and a Disney-themed welcome screen that greets drivers when they power up the vehicle.

Some features on the concept vehicle haven’t made it into the final product. We took a look at the concept vehicle and found that the lamp screens that brought enchanting sparkle animations to life on its headlights and taillights are notably absent in the production version. In its place, the infotainment system now greets users with a unique startup screen that mixes iconic Disney music with the Disney100 logo, accompanied by a touch of “pixie dust.”

In its place, the infotainment system now greets users with a unique startup screen that mixes iconic Disney music with the Disney100 logo, accompanied by a touch of “pixie dust.”

In addition, the special edition comes adorned with Mickey Mouse-inspired trim, and distinctive floor mats, and features embossed Disney100 logos gracing the front seats and center console. Though these features don’t make up for the absence of cool headlight animations, we kind of understand why Hyundai opted to not add it to the production version. Vehicle safety laws take precedence over cool headlights.

Scheduled for an early 2024 release, the limited-production vehicle from Hyundai is a rarity, with a mere 1,000 units slated for assembly. This unique car is an integral component of Hyundai’s comprehensive 360-degree integrated marketing campaign. The campaign encompasses advertising, immersive events, fresh content, and a merchandise line, all designed to celebrate Disney’s 100th anniversary.
