At the end of the crash test, BYD leaves with something to brag about as both the Dolphin and Seal achieved a stellar performance in testing, earning a full five-star rating from the ANCAP. Not an easy feat to do considering the extensive amount of testing these organizations do to grade new vehicles.

Attaining a five-star rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program demands vehicles to excel in all tests and showcase advanced safety assist technologies. Starting with the Seal, BYD’s four-door sedan EV demonstrated outstanding performance, earning top marks for driver protection in the oblique pole test and safeguarding child passengers in the side impact test. Furthermore, the EV achieved notable scores:
- 89 percent for adult occupant protection
- 87 percent for child occupant protection
- 82 percent for vulnerable road user protection
- 75 percent for safety assistance.
“Our 2023 test and rating criteria have introduced further requirements for high levels of structural protection as well as new challenges for manufacturers in the area of active safety systems and, pleasingly, the three models rated so far this year have each achieved five-star ratings. This is a trend we’d like to see continue as we finalize testing and assessments on a number of new models later this year.”

Next up is the Dolphin, which also excelled in the ANCAP’s rigorous safety tests, earned top scores for the following criteria:
- 89 percent for adult occupant protection
- 86 percent for child occupant protection
- 85 percent for vulnerable road user protection
- 77 percent for safety assistance
Notably, it achieved the highest score among all models tested by ANCAP in 2023. However, it’s important to mention that only the Seal, Dolphin, and Lexus RZ have undergone ANCAP’s more rigorous 2023 testing regime.
The Dolphin is the sole available vehicle from the two models here in the Philippines, serving as BYD’s most budget-friendly option in the local market. Achieving top marks in the ANCAP or any crash test is certain to enhance brand confidence among buyers, especially when it comes to the most affordable model.
