H2609001 LALAKING SOBRANG BAIT INIIPUTAN SA ULO NG ASAWANG OFW part2

In 2023, at the Tokyo Mobility Show, Mazda unveiled to the world the spiritual successor to the RX-7, a car called the Iconic SP sports car concept. The concept car got the industry abuzz not only because of its looks but also because Mazda says the future of the Wankel rotary engine is inside the Iconic SP concept.

This was big news because the last car ever to be powered directly by the Wankel rotary was the RX-8 which ended production in 2012 and the rotary engine along with it. In 2023, the rotary engine returned but not as fans wanted it to. The revival of the rotary came in the form of a range extender for the MX-30 crossover. This left some fans a bit disappointed and wanting more, however, that may soon be about to change.

During his address at the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon, Mazda President, and CEO Katsuhiro Moro pleasantly surprised attendees with the announcement of the formation of a specialized team of engineers dedicated to the development of rotary engines. Moro, before delivering this significant news, conveyed his appreciation for the positive reception received after the reveal of the impressive Iconic SP concept.

“I am very happy and deeply moved by all the support and encouragement I have received for the compact sports car concept. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all. With your encouragement, we are launching a rotary engine development group on February 1 to move closer to this dream.”

Masahiro Moro
President and CEO, Mazda

With that statement, Mazda’s leadership might be implying that the Iconic SP will reach the production stage, hence the revival of Mazda’s rotary development team. As you may remember, when the Iconic SP was unveiled, it showcased an electric motor propelling the wheels and a rotary engine developed to be able to run not just on gasoline, but also on hydrogen, biofuels, and liquefied petroleum gas. As for the production version though, don’t get too excited about it because nothing is confirmed just yet. Also, if Mazda does put the Iconic SP into production, it will be a while before its official unveiling.

If you liked the design of the Iconic SP, then you’ll love the cars which derive its design from. Give the Mazda car guide on AutoDeal a look and explore the Japanese brand’s current vehicle offerings. Maybe get a free quote for one while you’re there.
