The Mazda 6 Sedan has been pulled out of the United States and Japan in recent years leaving only a few select markets offering the 6 in sedan format. Here in the Philippines, the Mazda 6 nameplate continues to live on in its wagon form, but, because the sedan version was discontinued back in 2023, buyers will have to make do with its smaller sibling, the Mazda 3.

Over in China, Mazda has unveiled what might be the spiritual successor of the Mazda 6, a rear-wheel drive, fully electric sedan called the Mazda EZ-6. A product of Mazda’s collaboration with Chinese automaker Changan, the EZ-6 is set to hit the Chinese market later this year. This electric sedan boasts elegant body contours and a commanding presence, characterized by its elongated, slender headlights seamlessly merging into a broad, squared grille. At the rear, a continuous light strip spans the width, maintaining Mazda’s signature circular eye elements. Enhancing aerodynamics, a retractable wing sits atop the taillight and is designed to enhance stability during high speeds.

We hope this sleek sedan won’t remain a Chinese-market exclusive for long.

Mazda EZ-6

While details on the EZ-6’s electric powertrain remain scarce, it’s confirmed to be rear-wheel drive, indicating a likely single rear-mounted electric motor. Mazda asserts a balanced 50/50 weight distribution and says the EZ-6 will use front strut and rear multilink suspension systems. Additionally, Mazda plans to offer the EZ-6 as a plug-in hybrid, yet specifics on the accompanying engine are currently undisclosed. Estimated driving ranges stand at approximately 595 km for the EV variant and a purported 997 km for the PHEV model on a single tank of fuel.

Mazda EZ-6 Interior

Inside, the EZ-6’s interior is awash with premium materials, complemented by a sizable 14.6-inch central touchscreen and a 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster. The center console adopts a minimalist approach, housing a wireless charging pad, two cupholders, and tasteful wood accents, which extend to the window switches on each door. Rear passengers benefit from a pair of vents and haptic touch controls for climate adjustments, while the infotainment system offers both voice and gesture control functionalities. Unlike many EVs which have a robotic and sanitized feeling wafting about in the interior, the EZ-6 appears to stay faithful to Mazda’s way of interior design.

Mazda EZ-6 Front

The EZ-6 will be available for purchase in China after making its public debut this week at the Beijing Motor Show. If you’re excited about this sedan making its way into the Philippines, we suggest you manage your expectations, as media reports indicate it’s unlikely to be available outside of China.

Don’t worry though, Mazda Philippines’s range of exciting vehicles will still be sure to satisfy your craving for a premium car with engaging driving dynamics. Check out the full Mazda lineup on AutoDeal.com.ph.
