The smallest crossover in Kia’s EV-series lineup is set to be revealed this month and it’s aptly called, the EV3. Also, since it’s a subcompact crossover, Kia’s baby crossover will likely take on Volvo’s EX30 and will most definitely serve as the replacement for its own creation, the Kia Soul EV.

Similar to its predecessors, the seven-seater EV9 and the five-seater EV5, the EV3 will maintain a striking resemblance to the concept that foreshadowed its design. Kia has unveiled a series of teasers indicating that the EV3 will feature LED taillights reminiscent of its siblings’ bold styling, albeit with a slightly less upright rear fascia and an angled rear window. The unique lights, initially showcased in the EV3 Concept, remain largely unchanged for the production model, with only a slight increase in thickness.

As for the interior, Kia hasn’t provided any teaser images for the cabin of the EV3. If history is any indication, we could see significant alterations to the interior to make it more market-friendly and of course, easier to produce for Kia.
Moving to the powertrain, media sources speculate that the EV3 will feature a version of the Soul EV’s 64kWh battery. This means that if Kia does equip the EV3 with that kind of battery pack, we can expect it to have a driving range around the 450 km ballpark. That’s all speculation for now so nothing is set in stone until the reveal.
What is confirmed for the EV3 is info about its underpinnings. The EV3 will be built on the Hyundai E-GMP or the Electric Global Modular Platform much like its bigger siblings the EV5, EV6, and the EV5. As for the other deeper technical details like how many electric motors it has or what kind of EV architecture it will employ for its charging, we’ll just have to wait until May 23 rolls around to get a full picture.
