H2409002 Maluhong Ina part2

Right now, if you wanted a crossover from Ford, the most affordable one across its entire lineup would be the Ford Territory, but this wasn’t the case a few years ago. Before it was discontinued in 2022, the EcoSport was the Blue Oval’s affordable sub-P1,000,000 crossover for the masses.

First launched in 2013, the EcoSport is arguably one of the forerunners that popularized the subcompact crossover segment, with sales remaining consistent up to the day Ford Philippines pulled its plug.

The subcompact crossover segment is currently dominated by offerings from Chinese, Japanese, and Korean brands, with the Toyota Raize leading the pack. Ford, however, might soon re-enter the competition, according to media reports.

According to the Spanish motoring site Motor.Es, a new subcompact crossover could debut by 2025 with the most likely guess being an all-new EcoSport. The new model is expected to be manufactured at Ford’s Valencia plant in Spain and is seen as a potential rival to the Dacia Duster in that market. In Europe, the Duster has a strong presence in the small, budget crossover segment—a market that Ford is eager to enter. Over in India where the EcoSport was also a popular choice, Ford’s new crossover will have to fight against the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. The same goes for the local market, too—assuming the crossover is slated for launch here.

Ford unnamed Patent Image

The report also indicates that the upcoming EcoSport might include a hybrid powertrain, with low-displacement turbocharged engine options still on the table. It is likely that the new model will resemble the version seen in the recently leaked patent photos. Although renders based on the leaked image have surfaced, the final product is expected to match the patent filing image closely.
