Ford’s street tuned pickup is louder and greener

There’s already plenty of variants of the next-generation Ford Ranger out in the Philippine market. But with that being the case, we’re still missing quite a lot actually, including the version that’s designed for the streets instead of the trail.

We’re talking about the Ford Ranger MS-RT, which now gets a big boost in performance courtesy of PHEV system. The electrified truck now combines motorsport-inspired styling with a greener hybrid powertrain, all while keeping the pickup’s full load-hauling and towing capability.

Developed by Ford Pro in partnership with M-Sport – the outfit that takes care of Ford’s WRC campaign with the Puma and the bonkers Raptor T1+ for Dakar, the Ranger MS-RT PHEV is based on the Ranger PHEV. The MS-RT variant has a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine with a 75 kW electric motor and a 10-speed automatic gearbox. Together, the setup produces 281 PS and 697 Nm of torque.

The 11.8 kWh battery can be charged via plug-in or through regenerative braking, delivering up to 40 km of zero-emissions EV range. While it got heavier with the PHEV hardware, the Ranger MS-RT PHEV still retains its 3,500 kg towing capacity and 1-ton payload rating.

As for the looks, the Ranger MS-RT PHEV looks similar to its turbo diesel V6 counterpart, sporting a more aggressive look with a honeycomb grille, integrated front splitter, sculpted side skirts, and a rear bumper with diffuser.  The MS-RT version has a 40 mm lower ride height, widened track, and flared arches, while 21-inch diamond-cut wheels wrapped in 275/45 R21 tires complete the street truck vibe.

Inside, the Ranger MS-RT PHEV has sports seats trimmed in eco-leather and suede, along with blue contrast stitching and LED-illuminated MS-RT logos. The heated sports steering wheel also comes with a blue 12-o’clock marker, much like the diesel version.

The Ranger MS-RT PHEV will making its public debut at the 2025 IAA Mobility Show this September, and will be available to order in Europe later this year. The diesel version is already available in Thailand, so we won’t be surprised if the plug-in hybrid version also makes its way to SE Asia. As for the PH market, however, we’ll just have to wait and see.Next Auto News
