H1909003 Anak Napabayaan Ang Ina Para Sa Pangarap

MG has just introduced the ES5, its latest electric SUV, in China, with plans to make it a replacement for the ZS EV in markets like Europe, the UK, and Australia. While there’s no official word yet on a Philippine release, we can’t help but hope to see the new MG ES5 electric SUV here soon. Built on the same electric base as the MG4 hatchback, the ES5 is larger and has a newer design compared to the ZS EV.

Instead of updating the ZS EV, which will switch to a hybrid-only setup for 2025, MG chose to launch the ES5 as a fully electric SUV with the latest technological features. The ES5 has a new look with no traditional grille, giving it a smooth front design, which is quite different from MG’s gas-powered models. The front bumper takes inspiration from the MG Cyberster sports car, and the slim LED headlights and wide tail lights give it a clean, updated look.

At 4,476 mm in length, the ES5 is longer than the ZS EV, with most of the added length going toward a longer wheelbase to create more space inside. Inside, the ES5 comes with a flat-bottom steering wheel, a digital display, a large touchscreen for infotainment, and a floating center console.

The ES5 runs on MG’s Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) and shares this setup with the MG4 hatchback. It has a single electric motor on the rear axle, giving it 168 hp and 250 Nm of torque. In China, the ES5 comes with three battery options, with the largest one being a 62.2 kWh pack that offers up to 525 km of range under CLTC standards. A dual-motor version may be available in the future, but no details have been confirmed yet.

Launching globally in 2025, the MG ES5 will likely go up against electric SUVs like the Kia EV4 and Peugeot E-2008 in Europe, but its size puts it more in the compact SUV range. Could we expect this model in the Philippines anytime soon? We’d love to see it here, and hopefully, that happens sooner rather than later.
