The BYD Seal EV has been named Japan’s EV of the Year for 2024, making it BYD’s second consecutive win in the Japan Annual EV Awards. The Seal EV beat out other finalists, including the Honda N-VAN e: and Hyundai IONIQ 5 N, to take the top spot. The win follows another recent recognition for the Seal EV, as it was also named one of Japan Car of the Year’s Top Ten Best Models for 2024–2025.
The award organizers praised the Seal EV for its design, driving experience, and overall performance. Since launching in Japan in 2024, the Seal EV has been available in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants. It features an 82.56 kWh BYD Blade battery, and the all-wheel drive model can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, while the rear-wheel drive version does it in 5.9 seconds. Driving range varies between 510 km, 600 km, and 650 km, depending on the version. The model also supports fast charging, allowing it to go from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes.
