After weeks of teasers, the covers are finally off. The all-new BYD Sealion 5 DM-i is now officially available in the Philippines. It was teased not too long ago, and today, the plug-in hybrid crossover has made its local debut.

The BYD Sealion 5 DM-i is slightly smaller than the Sealion 6 and sits in the competitive subcompact crossover segment. With a price tag of P1,248,000, it’s being offered at a friendly cost for those looking to try out electrified driving. It uses a 1.5-liter gasoline engine paired with BYD’s Super DM-i hybrid system, giving a combined output of 194 hp and 300 Nm of torque. It runs on front-wheel drive and can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds.
The 12.96 kWh Blade Battery allows for up to 71 kilometers of pure electric driving based on NEDC. With a full tank and full charge, the total range goes beyond 1,000 kilometers. Charging from 15 to 100 percent takes about 4.5 hours using a standard AC charger. It also has V2L or vehicle-to-load, which lets you plug in small appliances or gadgets when needed.
Officially measuring 4,738 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, and 1,710 mm tall, the Sealion 5 DM-i rides on 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels wrapped in 225/60 tires. The exterior features sharp LED lighting, power-adjustable heated side mirrors with integrated puddle lamps, and silver accents across the front fascia for a more dynamic look.

Inside, the crossover features a mix of leather, fabric, and hard plastics, with a beige and brown cabin color scheme. A 10.1-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system takes center stage, paired with an 8.8-inch LCD instrument cluster. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, USB, Bluetooth, and 4G connectivity all come standard. There are six speakers, dual-zone auto climate control, leather seats, and a full set of power features. The front seats are manually adjustable (6-way for the driver and 4-way for the passenger), while the rear seats offer a 60:40 split-fold setup. Cargo capacity ranges from 520 to 1,339 liters.
Safety features include six airbags, a rear camera, cruise control, electronic stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, hill start assist, hill descent control, and tire pressure monitoring. While there are no advanced driver-assist systems like adaptive cruise or lane-keeping assist, the basics are covered for everyday driving.
The BYD Sealion 5 DM-i is currently available in one variant and is priced at P1,248,000. For a limited time, buyers can avail of an introductory price of P1,198,000.
