Is the Hyundai IONIQ 3 ready for long drives in the Philippines?

Range anxiety is real, especially when you’re stuck in traffic or heading out of town. Hyundai says the IONIQ 3 will go as far as 587 km on a single charge, making it easier to stop for snacks instead of charging.

Hyundai has announced that it is developing the IONIQ 3, a new small electric vehicle that will debut as a near-production concept at the Munich Motor Show in September 2025, as reported by TopGear. The IONIQ 3 will slot between the Inster and Kona Electric but will carry the IONIQ name as it uses Hyundai’s newest EV platform with upgraded connectivity features.
Production of the IONIQ 3 will begin in early 2026. Buyers will have a choice between two battery options: 58.3 kWh or 81.4 kWh. Depending on the version, the car is expected to deliver a driving range of 419 to 587 km under WLTP standards. The model is front-wheel drive, can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in under eight seconds, and produces around 201 hp. It will use a 400V electrical system, which is more cost-efficient compared to the faster 800V setup found in larger IONIQ models such as the IONIQ 5, 6, and 9.
Hyundai shared that the IONIQ brand is now ranked second in EV awareness surveys, just behind Tesla. With the IONIQ 3, the company plans to strengthen its position in the lower-cost EV market. While the Kona Electric is already available, the IONIQ 3 will be slightly smaller but offer more advanced technology.
Among its features, the IONIQ 3 will support Apple CarPlay Ultra and a customizable user interface, along with new EV sound effects. It will also be part of Hyundai’s plan for “software-defined vehicles,” meaning customers can add or update features through downloads, even in used models.
The IONIQ 3 will be built in Turkey to reduce shipping and tariff costs. Hyundai already produces several models in Europe, including the i10 and i20 in Turkey and the Tucson and i30 in the Czech Republic.
The company says it will continue to sell gasoline, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric models while also preparing range-extender EVs. But with the IONIQ 3, Hyundai is aiming to give buyers a smaller EV that combines long range, everyday practicality, and modern features at a more accessible price point.
