Is Hyundai bringing the IONIQ 9 to the Philippines soon?

Another EV just made it to the DOE list, and it’s none other than Hyundai’s biggest one yet, the IONIQ 9. So, does this mean we’ll be seeing it soon on our roads too?

The Hyundai IONIQ 9 is now on the DOE’s EV list. Could this mean a future launch in the Philippines?

It looks like Hyundai isn’t done yet, and a new electric SUV from the carmaker might be heading to the local market soon. The Hyundai IONIQ 9, which is the brand’s newest three-row electric SUV, was recently listed by the Department of Energy as an officially recognized battery electric vehicle (BEV) for the Philippine market, as reported by AutoIndustriya.

While there’s no word yet from Hyundai Motor Philippines if they will be selling it locally, this listing has raised questions about whether we’ll be seeing it on the road soon. According to the DOE, the Hyundai IONIQ 9 is listed as a 2025 model year BEV. It’s a large SUV, measuring 5,000 mm long, 1,980 mm wide, and 1,790 mm tall. It also has a gross vehicle weight of more than 3,000 kg, making it one of the heaviest EVs around.

The variant listed by the DOE uses a dual motor setup and has all-wheel drive. It makes 226.1 kW, which is around 302, and delivers 605 Nm of torque. It also runs on a 110.3 kWh battery pack. Hyundai hasn’t confirmed its official range for our market, but based on overseas data, it could go as far as 570 kilometers on a full charge. Right now, Hyundai’s local EV lineup includes the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6. Earlier this year, the brand also launched hybrid versions of the Kona and the Elantra. If the IONIQ 9 does arrive, it could be Hyundai’s first fully electric seven-seater SUV in the country, possibly competing with Kia’s EV9, which is built for similar use.

However, there’s also the chance that the listing is simply for registration or importation reasons, possibly by third-party importers. That said, with more Filipinos becoming open to electric vehicles and brands expanding their EV lineups, many are hoping the IONIQ 9 could be launched here officially.

Still, with EVs growing in the country and Hyundai’s good track record, we’ve got our fingers crossed for the IONIQ 9 to officially join the local lineup. While we wait, check out what Hyundai’s already offering at AutoDeal.com.ph.
