The Nissan LEAF finally gets a much more reasonable price tag of P1,998,000, a P800,000 drop from its original price of P2,798,000. This is due to President Marcos’s recently passed Executive Order No.12, dated January 13, 2023, which reduces tariffs on Electric Vehicles (EVs) from 30 percent to zero percent.
You might argue that the price is still quite steep for this vehicle class, but it is the start of making EV ownership much more accessible to all. This also helps current EV buyers to make a decision much easier if the LEAF is part of their vehicle shortlist or if they are shopping for an EV.
The LEAF price drop as well as the recently passed Executive Order No.12 will help Nissan’s “Ambition 2030” long-term vision wherein, the Japanese brand will work to increase its electrified vehicle product lineup in all its markets by 2030. The brand will also utilize its electrified vehicle technologies to address various issues beyond transportation and sustainable mobility. To support the latter, Nissan Philippines launched last year its Blue Switch initiative which aims to create key partnerships with various organizations to help address social concerns such as disaster response, climate change, responsible travel, and energy management with the use of EV technologies such as Vehicle-to-Anything (V2X) bi-directional charging, as prov en with their Nissan LEAF display at the 2023 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS).

“Nissan continues to make electrified mobility more accessible to our customers across the country, as a pioneer in the Philippines’ electrification movement. We welcome this development from the Philippine government as it further accelerates our electrification strategy for the country in line with our Nissan Ambition 2030, which aims to empower mobility and beyond by providing long-term sustainable solutions,”
Juan Miguel Hoyos
Nissan Philippines President
Through Executive Order No.12, Nissan, along with other manufacturers available locally, would have an easier time bringing other EVs in, with a much more aggressive pricing worthy of consideration. Exciting times for the future of sustainable mobility.
