H2909003 EPAL NA KAIBIGAN part2

Back in May, we first reported on an upcoming a-segment crossover coming from Hyundai called the Exter. At the time, the only information we had about the car was a sketch of the Exter’s front end and a signature of its designer. Though it leaves much to the imagination, the sketch revealed a few trademark qualities of Hyundai’s new design language for its cars. These include H-shaped DRLs and the bumper-mounted headlights we see on Hyundai cars of today.

Now, Hyundai has officially unveiled the Exter crossover in India and along with it, the all-important specs and details. First and foremost, is the size, the precise dimensions of the Exter are 3,815 mm in length, 1,710 mm in width, and 1,631 mm in height, with a wheelbase spanning 2,450 mm. According to Indian automotive publications, the Exter just slides under four meters in length to pass a certain tax bracket in India.

Shifting the focus to the engine options for the Exter, the crossover comes with two engine choices. Firstly, a 1.2-liter, four-cylinder gasoline engine is available, and secondly, an alternative 1.2-liter bi-fuel version, which operates on compressed natural gas (CNG). As for the transmission, options include a five-speed manual or an automated manual transmission (AMT). CNG fuel is a popular choice in India in terms of alternative fuels, however, the only transmission option available for this engine is the five-speed manual.

Hyundai Kappa 1.2-Liter Engine

The 1.2-liter gasoline variant generates a respectable 82 hp and 114 Nm of torque which is expected for engines of this size. On the other hand, the CNG-powered model produces 68 hp and 95 Nm of torque, offering a slightly lower but still capable performance offset by the added benefit of lower refueling cost.

In terms of the interior which we haven’t seen before, the Exter shares the touchscreen housing and instrument cluster with the Stargazer which is offered here in the country. Other features to note include a textured crash pad, fabric upholstered seats with contrast stitching, and a black and white shade for the interior plastics.

Still in the interior, we move on to the Exter’s gadgets and tech features. The Exter comes equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality. The top-spec models go a step further, offering a voice command-enabled sunroof, wireless charging capability, and automatic climate control. Additionally, the top-spec Exter offers rear ventilation, front and rear dashcams, a cooled glove box, and a push-button engine start. Standard safety features include six SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control with hill start assist, and rear parking sensors.

For now, the Exter is only offered in India, if it does make its way into the Philippines, it will be up against the similarly sized Toyota Raize which should make for an interesting competition.
