The BMW XM is the German brand’s latest luxury crossover SUV. First making an appearance at the 2023 Bangkok International Motor Show, BMW Philippines has now introduced the XM to our market. Positioned above the X5 M, X6 M Competition, and X7 M60i, the recently introduced XM takes its place as the second fully-dedicated M car, after the M1 sports car which was launched way back in 1978.
Starting with the looks, the all-new XM looks like a big bruiser, commanding one’s presence even while parked, showcasing a bold dual kidney grille, split-type LED headlights with daytime running lights, and large, two-tone, 22-inch alloy wheels. The M high-gloss Shadow Line, accentuated by a black strip running along the body, harks back to the iconic BMW M1. Other style points to note are the aggressive front bumper, functional quad-exhausts, and sleek LED taillights which nearly wrap around the back door of the XM.

Stepping inside, the XM’s interior has the BMW Live Cockpit Professional, comprising a fully digital instrument cluster and a curved display that seamlessly integrates Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and navigation functionalities. As for the rest of the interior, you’ll find soft Merino leather adorning the seats, complemented by a mixture of metal and soft plastics making the XM a wonderful place to be in. To enhance the interior’s sporty appeal, carbon fiber interior trim pieces accentuate the upper sections of the instrument and door panels.
Additional equipment include a Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system comprising over 20 speakers and an astounding 1,475 watts of audio power. For added comfort and convenience, the vehicle features a four-zone automatic climate control system, M multi-function seats, an M leather steering wheel, and a heads-up display to keep essential information right in the driver’s line of sight.

Starting from a standstill, BMW claims the XM can reach 100 km/h in a mere 4.3 seconds and will top out at 250 km/h. Even when relying solely on electric power, the XM maintains an admirable top speed of 140 km/h and offers an all-electric range of approximately 82 to 88 km. The source of all this power is the XM’s M Hybrid Drive System, which consists of a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 and an electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery with a 25.7 kWh capacity.
On its own, the engine develops 482 hp 280 Nm while the electric motor churns out 194 hp and 280 Nm. Combine these two together though and the M Hybrid Drive system unleashes a staggering 644 hp and 800 Nm of torque. All this power is transmitted to an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission which sends it to the road via all four wheels.
The price for all this luxuriousness and power? To own the M-developed XM crossover SUV, buyers will have to hand over P15,890,000. To round things off, the XM is big in three key areas, power, size, and price.
