After what seems like an eternity of anticipation, since Nissan has teased the Z Nismo with Chris Forsberg literally smoking its rear tires, the wait is finally over for the 2024 Nissan Z Nismo – a high-performance version of the iconic Nissan Z. This beast is now equipped with more power, improved aerodynamics, and enhanced grip to conquer the corners.
Let’s start with the heart of the machine – the powertrain. The source of power remains the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine, but Nissan’s engineers have applied their magic to boost its output. By increasing the turbo boost, refining the cooling system, and optimizing the engine tune, they’ve managed to squeeze out an additional 20 hp and 46 Nm of torque compared to the standard Z. The result is a staggering 420 hp and 520 Nm of torque, with peak torque available throughout a wide range from 2,000 to 5,200 rpm, ensuring a satisfying power delivery.

This beast is now equipped with more power, improved aerodynamics, and enhanced grip to conquer the corners.
Let’s start with the heart of the machine – the powertrain. The source of power remains the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine, but Nissan’s engineers have applied their magic to boost its output. By increasing the turbo boost, refining the cooling system, and optimizing the engine tune, they’ve managed to squeeze out an additional 20 hp and 46 Nm of torque compared to the standard Z. The result is a staggering 420 hp and 520 Nm of torque, with peak torque available throughout a wide range from 2,000 to 5,200 rpm, ensuring a satisfying power delivery.
Sending all that power to the rear wheels is a Nismo-tuned nine-speed automatic transmission, the only option available as there’s no manual gearbox for the enthusiasts. The Z Nismo boasts lightweight Rays 19-inch wheels designed specifically for this model, wrapped in high-performance Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT600 tires measuring 285/35 at the rear, similar to those found on the mighty GT-R.
But power isn’t everything; it must be put to good use. The Z Nismo’s improved grip is achieved not only through the tires but also via various design tweaks that enhance cooling and downforce. The front fascia incorporates a design known as Grand-Nose (G-Nose) inspired by the classic Fairlady 240ZG, extending forward and giving the car a sportier appearance. Additionally, a subtle yet effective lip spoiler and functional canards on the corners of the fascia work together with Nismo side sills and a larger three-piece rear spoiler, drawing inspiration from the GT-R to increase downforce while reducing lift and drag.
Beyond the aesthetics and aero, Nissan has made crucial upgrades to the suspension and braking systems. The Z Nismo benefits from unique sway bars, retuned dampers, and stiffer springs for enhanced handling on both road and track. The chassis is fortified with underfloor bracing and numerous suspension and steering bushings to increase stiffness by 2.5 percent and sharpen the steering response. Braking performance is also stepped up with larger 381 mm rotors in front and 350 mm rotors at the rear.
To fully exploit the car’s potential on the track, Nissan introduces a new Sport+ driving mode, reprogramming the shift points and other parameters. Recaro seats are also added to keep the driver and passenger firmly in place during high-speed maneuvers. When not tearing up the track, the Nismo-specific animations on the digital display and the abundance of red trim throughout the interior give the cabin a sporty flair.
The 2024 Nissan Z Nismo has arrived, fulfilling the dreams of enthusiasts who have been waiting for an amped-up version of the Z, however, the regular Z is yet to make its way here in the Philippines, but we feel it’s only a matter of time until it does.
