Kia, the South Korean automotive manufacturer, has unveiled its latest offering, the Kia EV5 compact electric SUV, at the Chengdu Motor Show in China. Just like its counterparts Hyundai and Genesis, Kia is keeping the details about this zero-emissions SUV under wraps until its EV Day event in October.
For now, enthusiasts will have to content themselves with an official photo gallery and gleaned design insights from the press release. The new EV5 boasts a unique mood lighting system with adjustable brightness, offering a selection of 64 colors, including 10 curated by Kia’s lighting experts. This mood lighting synchronizes with driving modes, adjusts in low light conditions, and even warns the driver if the vehicle exceeds the speed limit.
Kia emphasizes that customers can personalize the EV5’s interior to match their preferences, offering four-color and five-seat pattern options, including woven and artificial leather variants. Exterior color choices for the electric SUV include nine glossy options like Snow White Pearl, Clear White, and Magma Red, along with a matte Ivory Silver.

Karim Habib, Executive Vice President and Head of Kia Global Design Center, expressed that the Kia EV5 aims to redefine the compact SUV category through Kia’s distinct design philosophy, “Opposites United.” He highlighted the collaborative efforts between designers and engineers to ensure a comprehensive solution for sustainable mobility, resulting in a vehicle that raises the bar for design, performance, practicality, and user experience.

Catering to millennial families, the Kia EV5 promises seating for five individuals, exceptional versatility, and superior comfort. Its front end boasts a wide nose, solid hood, and distinctive “Signature Star Map Lighting” created through LED daytime running lights.

Notably, reports suggest that the electric compact SUV will be powered by an 82-kilowatt-hour battery, delivering an impressive driving range of up to 598 km.
The anticipated timeline for the Kia EV5’s availability is the end of the year in China, followed by launches in other markets shortly thereafter. This offering demonstrates Kia’s commitment to innovative design, sustainable mobility, and enhancing the driving experience for the modern generation.
