Changan Philippines and Inchcape have made their partnership official, launching a new model that’s available, and promising an electric crossover by the first half of next year. It’s been an eventful first few years since Changan entered the limelight in the Philippines with the brand changing hands a number of times. Every change was able to bring better and better to the table, and it appears that Changan is in an excellent position to showcase what it is truly made of.

Inchcape and Changan have made their partnership official, and to solidify the venture, we’re getting two new crossovers for the Philippines.

The first model is a midsize crossover that can accommodate seven people. The 2024 Changan X7 Plus is a seven-seater equipped with the right amount of tech, Changan’s signature look and build, and a powerful and torquey motor that allows for an effortless drive. As for the price of this model, it stays true to the formula that Changan pioneered with its CS series which is high value and high quality.

Equipped with a 1.5-liter turbo engine, the Changan X7 features a power output of 185 hp and 300 Nm of torque mated to a seven-speed DCT. If this looks familiar, that is because the power unit is shared between it and the CS55 Plus’ engine. We still get the familiar Changan look, but more in line with the CS55 Plus’ sharp and sleek lines and cues. The X7 will take the place of the CS95 which was discontinued a while back, and now it appears that Changan has a compelling option in the market today.

The price for the X7 has been made official at P1,580,000, however, the brand is running a special cash buyer’s price of P1,530,000, slashing off P50,000 for anyone who is ready and willing to buy the seven-seater.

During the event, Changan parked the X7 off to the side, leaving a big space empty off to the right side of the stage (audience side). While we did know that two crossovers were going to be launched, how the announcement was going to be made was something that we did not know.

Technical difficulties may strike at any time, but the brand faked a bunch of static noises and interference glitches through the speakers and on screen. Even the host’s microphone was turned off. A metaphor for the brand’s thrusts in the market, it wants to interfere with the status quo and introduce its own brand of progressive mobility in the market. Presenting, the Changan S7 EV.

While we’re still foggy on the details of this car, initial research shows that the S7 makes up to 214 hp and with a maximum range of either 520 kilometers or 620 kilometers depending on the variant. There is also a hybrid powertrain for this model and a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 94 hp finds itself paired with a 235 hp-capable electric motor, and an all-electric range of up to 200 km in the long-range variant of this hybrid is also available in China.

Deepal is the brand that this model is sold under in other markets, including China. It’s also worth noting that the brand will be sold as another line of products for Changan in the Philippines. We got to ask some of the executives, and they were able to tell us that the brand is planning a launch sometime in the first half of 2024 for the S7. As for the price, exact numbers weren’t on the table as Changan Philippines is still in its finalization stages, however, we were told that we’re definitely under the P3,000,000 mark for the S7 EV when it launches.
