Xiaomi, a prominent Chinese company renowned for its smartphones and e-scooters, had plans back in 2021 to produce its very own electric vehicle (EV). Though grainy photos were leaked once news first broke out, more details of a production version have recently been revealed. However, the reveal probably was not the way Xiaomi intended for its first EV. The reveal comes courtesy of a public sales license filing in China, with Cars News China discovering the information on the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT)’s website.
This platform regularly releases a monthly list of vehicles undergoing China’s homologation process, providing the public with access to details such as photos, specifications, trim levels, and more. If you may remember, this was also the same way the Chinese market version of the Nissan Pathfinder was discovered a few months ago.

Taking a look at its design, the SU7 maintains a resemblance to the prototype renders. Nevertheless, the physical version of the EV looks much larger than its digital counterpart. Specifically, the Xiaomi SU7 spans 4,997 mm in length, 1,963 mm in width, and 1,455 mm in height. The wheelbase measures in at an impressive 3,000 mm, putting it in competition with luxury sedans. Remaining true to the prototype, the SU7 still features split headlights and LED tail lights that look inspired by Aston Martin.

The filing also discloses several additional details, such as the presence of 19-inch wheels and optional 20-inch wheels, along with the availability of a LIDAR system positioned on the top of the windshield. Car News China reports two powertrain choices: a rear-wheel-drive version generating 295 hp and a more potent all-wheel-drive variant delivering a lot more horses, 663 horses to be precise. The base model’s top speed is limited to 210 km/h, while the more powerful version can reach a maximum speed of 265 km/h.
Mass production of the SU7 is slated to begin in December 2023, with deliveries expected to kick off in February 2024. Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. Ltd (BAIC) in Beijing will be responsible for the production of the EV, and the factory has already initiated the construction of pre-production models for testing purposes. Exciting stuff awaits in 2024, and the Xiaomi SU7 is definitely another new car to watch out for.
