GAC Motor Philippines surprised us with yet another launch. In addition to the M8, which was previewed on the outside of the launch venue (it wasn’t much of an unveiling, to be honest), the brand seemed to be more interested in actually unveiling its new MPV, the M6.

Pinned as a true seven-seater in the market, GAC’s excited to bring a new player that will bump up against other seven-seaters, but with a more premium twist. To the tune of P1,200,000, the starting price of the 2024 M6 will likely turn heads. GAC is saying that it will be one to watch. The lineup will top out at about P1,600,000.

The M6 Pro is an MPV that you cannot ignore. All the premium amenities plus captains’ chairs, but at a fraction of the cost.

While we cannot talk about the specifications just yet since GAC hasn’t revealed specifics at the moment, we can safely say that the top-of-the-line variant (GL) will come with a pair of captains’ chairs, a rear seat that folds and reveals a flat floor, just like the GN6 that precedes the M6, and GAC’s signature interior and exterior styling.
The engine that the brand will put into the model will be a 1.5-liter turbocharged Mega Wave Power gasoline engine that makes about 170 hp and around 250 Nm of torque. GAC hasn’t made its specifications official just yet, but we’re hoping that they do keep a powerful engine in the lineup to keep the car interesting to drive and to make sure that it leaves its other competitors in the dust.
Other than that, GAC Motor Philippines states that the model will be set for a launch in Q1 next year, perhaps alongside the M8 in the future. GAC did not make its powertrain offerings official just yet which begs the question of whether or not the brand is planning to have a hybrid system in the vehicle. It’s not outside the realm of possibility given what the brand offers in its home country.

When it comes to features, we can expect adaptive cruise control, an infotainment screen with smartphone pairing (Apple CarPlay for sure, Android Auto, we’re unsure), and perhaps blind-spot monitoring and a full suite of airbags. However, the amenities at the back will be a little more spartan, at least compared to the M8 (of course). Either way, it’s a big step up compared to comparable competitors in the segment or otherwise.

GAC hasn’t stated whether it will come with a hybrid system, but if it does at that price point, it will be an absolute steal. We know that the 1.5-liter engine of GAC can come mated to a hybrid system. We won’t be holding our breath, but it is nice to dream.
