Whenever the name Nio comes up, we remember the hardcore electric sports car called the EP9. Capable of reaching a top speed of 313 km/h with a total output of 1,341 hp, the EP9 launched the Nio name to car and electric vehicle (EV) enthusiasts alike. But we’re not talking about the EP9 right now, because this December, Nio unveiled its latest flagship EV. Called the ET9, this executive sedan from Nio is centered more on luxury and comfort.

In terms of looks, the ET9 blurs the line between a sedan and a crossover because of its sportback-styled rear end and high ride height. Coupled with a 5,232 length, and massive 23-inch wheels, you’ve got a sedan that is both sleek and imposing on the road. At the front, the ET9 has a sleek strip of DRLs with the actual headlights housed inside the edges of the bumpers. Being an EV, the ET9 does not need a massive grille, instead, the car has an intake at the bottom part of the bumper.
The minimalistic design continues at the back with the ET9 featuring wrap-around taillights with the Nio badge sitting at the center of the tailgate. The sloping roofline gives the ET9 a sleeker profile with the blacked-out roof providing some contrast to the body.

Moving to the technical side of things, Nio has announced that the ET9 is set to feature an impressive peak charge rate of 600 kilowatts, allowing users to gain 254 km of range in just five minutes of charging on a fast charger. Notably, Nio is also developing chargers with a capability of 640 kW, aligning with the unveiling of the ET9. The remarkably swift charging is made possible by a 900-volt electrical architecture.
As for power, the ET9 features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain, delivering a combined output of 697 horsepower. No official performance numbers are stated on Nio’s website for now. Instead, Nio dedicates significant attention to detailing the rear seats and the luxurious executive lounge it offers, what’s the use of massive power in an executive sedan if it’s not comfortable right? The ET9 accommodates four passengers, with the center area of the rear seats transformed into the “Executive Bridge.” This innovative feature houses a tablet, a table, a wireless phone charger, and more. The seats offer extensive reclining, and ample arm support ensures a comfortable experience.
According to Nio, the ET9 is now available for pre-order in China and deliveries to customers will start in 2025. The Nio ET9 coming to the Philippines is more of a pipe dream than anything, however, the ET9 heralds the coming of more advanced electric vehicle platforms and shorter charging times. So while this car may be unattainable to us, there is a silver lining in the fact that EV technology is progressing much faster than ever.
