Good news for late-night motorists, no toll charges will be imposed on the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR), South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), the Skyway System, NAIA Expressway (NAIAX), and the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) from 10:00 PM on December 31 to 6:00 AM on January 1, 2024.
If you’re traveling late on New Year’s Eve, then this treat from San Miguel Corporation (SMC) will be quite handy. Previously, toll fees were also waived on these expressways on December 24, Christmas Eve, by the toll road operator. This is part of SMC’s yearly tradition of providing a toll holiday on specific holiday dates to give back to Filipino motorists.

“This annual tradition is our way of showing the Christmas spirit, especially for those who for some reason will have to travel late and try to get home to their loved ones. Through this, we hope to help spread the Filipino Christmas spirit, and also wish our countrymen well at the start of the new year.”

As always, the holidays bring with them tons of traffic going in and out of Metro Manila. The company suggests that motorists traveling to and from Metro Manila should anticipate significant traffic congestion on all expressways this week, particularly during the two consecutive weekends when holiday traffic is expected to reach its peak. The toll operator also recommends that motorists allocate extra travel time, especially if they are en route to transportation hubs like airports, seaports, and bus terminals for their scheduled trips.
Included in the toll holiday are the following tollways/expressways:
- Skyway Stage 1
- Skyway Stage 2
- Skyway Stage 3
- NAIA Expressway (NAIAX)
- South Luzon Expressway (SLEX)
- Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR Tollway)
- Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX)
SMC has suspended all road works on these expressways to keep the traffic moving during the holidays. As for us travelers, though traveling late at night will surely save us some cash from toll fees as well as avoid traffic congestion, there is an added risk of driving late at night. Make sure to check your vehicle and get a good rest if you decide to travel at night.
