In terms of exterior design, the Land Cruiser 70 is made with chrome-finished wing mirrors and black wheels, a chrome barrel, and off-road tires. While the chrome mirrors add a touch of style, their suitability for off-roading situations might be limited.
The new model is powered by a 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, delivering 201 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. The engine is coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission to guarantee good driving performance in various conditions. If this setup looks familiar to you, that’s because it’s the same one found in the Toyota Fortuner.
The special Land Cruiser 70 will be displayed together with the classic J40 Land Cruiser during the exhibit at the Tokyo Auto Salon from January 12 to 14 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan.
Toyota’s decision to reintroduce the Land Cruiser 70 in Japan, years after its discontinuation, may be the company’s plan to keep its off-road history while meeting the current standards of modern safety and driving needs. The event is a much-look-forward one for fans of Toyota’s off-road vehicles, as it gives a peek into the future of one of the brand’s iconic models. If you plan to see the vehicle in person, make sure to visit the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon and stay tuned for further details.
