The GR Yaris is reportedly receiving a facelift and power boost to nearly 300 horsepower, making it more similar to its US counterpart, the GR Corolla, where both models share the same 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine.
Toyota’s DAT is made for high-performance driving, offering a responsive and intuitive driving experience. As reported by Toyota Times in October 2023, Akio Toyoda, Toyota’s former CEO, confirmed having tested a GR Yaris equipped with this new technology during Round 5 of the 2023 ENEOS Super Taikyu Series. Racing driver Hiroaki Ishiura also commented on the DAT’s capability to intuitively sense hard braking and automatically downshift to prepare for acceleration, improving the overall driving experience.

“There’s no time lost when shifting, so the gap between myself and the pros was smaller than usual. I can just concentrate on braking and accelerating.”

Apart from the GR Yaris Automatic, Toyota is also expected to include special editions made in collaboration with WRC drivers Sebastien Ogier and Kalle Rovanpera. As stated by Magazine X, the limited-edition models will be made available through a lottery system via GR Garage. The global sales volume of the GR Yaris has exceeded 25,000 units, achieving the homologation requirements.
Despite initial projections favoring the more affordable 1.5L model, the top-grade RZ High-Performance variant has appeared as the popular choice, indicating a strong consumer preference for fully-equipped sports models. As the date of the event approaches, fans excitedly wait for additional details. For the latest updates, stay tuned to reports from the event.
