Great Wall Motor (GWM) is getting ready to introduce two new vehicles at the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) in 2024, which include a rugged 4×4 called the Haval MengLong and a high-end minivan named the WEY Gaoshan. These new cars seem to be part of GWM’s efforts to offer more choices to Filipino car buyers.

The Haval MengLong, also known as the Haval Raptor in some markets, is a compact crossover that has both the style of an old-school SUV but with modern capabilities. Despite not being a traditional rugged SUV, it promises impressive off-road performance, with a ground clearance of 200mm and a depth of 560mm, and even comes with a rear differential lock for difficult roads. What’s special about the MengLong is its plug-in hybrid system, which has a powerful 378hp and 750Nm of torque, with a battery range of 145km and a total exceeding 1,000km.

The second model, the WEY Gaoshan, is a luxury minivan that is over five meters long and seems to target the high-end minivan segment. WEY is a luxury sub-brand under GWM, named after the company’s chairman. The said minivan comes with luxury features such as powered ottoman seats in the second row, leather and soft-touch materials, dual sunroofs, and a large screen for both the instrument cluster and infotainment system, completed by a Harman/Kardon sound system. Like the MengLong, the Gaoshan is powered by a plug-in hybrid system with a combined output of 480hp and 762Nm of torque, and it comes standard with all-wheel drive.
Given their specifications and powertrains, Filipinos couldn’t be more excited. Everyone’s curious about how much these plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) will cost.
