The days of spending an entire day at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to renew your vehicle’s registration may soon be over. In a bid to make the process easier and quicker, the LTO is rolling out a full online vehicle registration renewal system using the Motor Vehicle Inspection System (MVIS).
LTO Assistant Secretary, Atty. Vigor Mendoza II, announced this significant update, highlighting the agency’s commitment to improving service efficiency. The new system will require vehicle inspections to be conducted exclusively through Private Motor Vehicle Inspection Centers (PMVICs).
The pilot run for this initiative is set to begin on August 9, 2024, in NCR, Region III, and Region IV-A. This effort is in line with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive to leverage technology for faster and more convenient government services for all Filipinos.

The MVIS is designed to ensure vehicle roadworthiness by thoroughly checking 62 individual parts through both visual and computer-aided testing. Key components inspected include brakes, lights, speedometers, side mirrors, exhaust systems, and suspension systems.
PMVICs play a crucial role in this new process. These centers utilize the MVIS to conduct comprehensive vehicle inspections with advanced equipment and trained inspectors. Once the inspection is complete, the Motor Vehicle Inspection Report (MVIR) is forwarded online to the LTO, streamlining the entire registration renewal process.
While you’ll still need to visit your nearest PMVIC for the inspection, the overall process promises to be significantly more efficient. The LTO’s move towards an online system represents a major step forward in making vehicle registration renewal easier and more convenient for everyone.
