Yesterday, Mazda Philippines announced that it is extending the warranty on the high-voltage lithium-ion batteries in its HEV lineup. The 24V and 48V lithium-ion batteries found in the Mazda3 HEV, Mazda CX-30 HEV, Mazda CX-60 HEV, and Mazda CX-90 HEV models will now come with a five-year warranty, up from the previous three-year coverage. This will offer customers greater peace of mind and added confidence in their hybrid Mazda.
Note that this warranty extension covers all units sold by Mazda Philippines since their respective launches in the Philippine market, starting with the Mazda3 HEV and CX-30 HEV in October 2021.

As for the batteries in question, Mazda says its HEV batteries are built with durability in mind, featuring advanced temperature management systems that optimize performance based on driving conditions. This technology prevents overheating, which can severely impact battery life and efficiency. Each battery also has a dedicated Power Control Module (PCM) that continuously monitors and protects it, carefully managing charging and discharging to prevent overcharging or depletion, thereby extending the battery’s lifespan. Think of it as the battery protection feature on your phone, except on a much larger scale.

The 24V and 48V lithium-ion batteries are essential components of Mazda’s HEV system. Integrated seamlessly with SKYACTIV engine technology, these batteries help deliver impressive driving performance while reducing fuel consumption. The system also helps lower tailpipe emissions by automatically shutting off the combustion engine during low speeds or when idling.
In addition, regenerative braking in the Mazda HEV system scavenges energy typically lost during deceleration, storing it in the battery. This stored energy can then be strategically used to provide an electric boost during acceleration or to minimize reliance on the internal combustion engine.
In addition to the extended five-year warranty on the Mazda HEV battery, owners also benefit from a three-year bumper-to-bumper warranty and a five-year or 100,000-kilometer free Preventive Maintenance Service (PMS) package on their Mazda vehicle.
