As we reported last week, Mazda Australia teased an upcoming update for its BT-50 pickup truck. Well, the covers are finally off and we can now see in full detail what the BT-50 is packing for its 2025 model year.

For 2025, the mid-size pickup receives a visual overhaul, incorporating elements of Mazda’s Kodo “Soul of Motion” design language and bringing its look more in line with the brand’s cars and SUVs. The exterior update is most striking at the front, with new LED headlights flanking a refreshed grille and a redesigned bumper that Mazda says includes an ‘air curtain’ for better fuel efficiency. At the rear, the tailgate sports a ridged design, accompanied by updated LED taillights. Both the front and rear now showcase the largest Mazda logos ever used, even when you compare them to the badges used in their most recent CX line of crossovers.
Inside, the cabin remains mostly unchanged, but Mazda has added a new nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring the updated Human Machine Interface (HMI) with a more ergonomic design and layout. Like the refreshed Isuzu D-MAX is based on, the 2025 BT-50 now boasts a larger instrument cluster, increasing in size from 4.2 inches to seven inches. Additionally, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are now standard.

Other notable updates include new USB-C charging and data ports, black leather trim accents replacing the previous brown, synthetic suede inserts in top-tier models, and a stitched “BT-50” logo on the front seat headrests.
On the safety side of things, Mazda has equipped the 2025 BT-50 with new driver assistance features. It now includes Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), which works alongside adaptive cruise control, allowing the pickup to slow down, stop, and accelerate autonomously. The rear-cross traffic brake enhances safety when reversing out of parking spaces, while the upgraded automatic emergency braking (AEB) now detects motorcycles and pedestrians more effectively at intersections. Additionally, Emergency Lane Keeping helps detect road edges even without visible lane markings.
Moving to the powertrain, the Australian market where the new BT-50 will first land will still come with the 4JJ3-TCX 3.0-liter turbodiesel as its lone engine option. This beefy diesel engine puts out 188 hp and 450 Nm of torque when paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Mazda has not mentioned if it will introduce the 1.9-liter RZ4E mild-hybrid featured in the updated D-MAX MHEV in Thailand.
As mentioned before, the BT-50 pickup will first land in Australia, hopefully, when other markets like the Philippines will follow soon.
