H1709005 Magnanakaw, Ninakaw ang Puso ng Bulag! part2

The pickup truck segment has been rumbling with activity in recent months. It started with the arrival of the much-anticipated Ranger Raptor V6 followed closely by the BYD Shark 6 DMO. You’d expect things to slow down by now, but no, another brand is throwing its hat into the ring.

The truck in question comes from Changan and is aptly named the Hunter. With the segment filled with trucks named after beasts and powerful creatures, this is a great way to make the product stand out, right?

The reason we’re talking about the Hunter right now is that we happened to encounter a truck loaded with brand-new Changan Hunter pickup trucks driving along STAR Tollway. The only plausible reason this truck would be headed to Manila is that a major automotive event is just weeks away. You guessed it—the Changan Hunter could be making an appearance at MIAS 2025 where it might finally go on sale.

To build excitement for its arrival, here’s a quick look at the Hunter’s specs. This pickup features a hybrid powertrain, where electricity delivers the power, and fuel keeps it going. In China, the Hunter comes with two powertrain options: a single rear electric motor or a dual-motor setup that enables all-wheel drive. The single-motor variant produces 174 hp and 320 Nm of torque, while the AWD dual-motor version steps up performance with 254 hp and 447 Nm of torque.

When its 31.18 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery is fully charged, Changan claims the Hunter can travel up to 180 km on electric power alone. Paired with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine acting as a generator, the Hunter EREV boasts an impressive total range of up to 1,031 km. The engine produces 187 hp and 340 Nm of torque, providing ample power to keep the battery charged while on the move.

When it comes to size, the Hunter EREV is comparable to other popular mid-size trucks we have here. It measures 5,380 mm long, 1,930 mm wide, and 1,885 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,180 mm. For those needing extra space, Changan also offers an extended wheelbase version, stretching the length to 5,630 mm.

Changan Hunter Exterior

While its payload capacity is a modest 495 kg, the Hunter makes up for it with solid off-road credentials, boasting a 29-degree approach angle and a 27-degree departure angle—ready to tackle the trails straight from the showroom.

Excited? We sure are! If our hunch is correct and the Changan Hunter is indeed heading to MIAS 2025, it’s set to shake up the pickup truck segment and intensify the competition this year.

While we wait for official confirmation, explore the rest of Changan’s lineup on AutoDeal.com.ph!
