Hybrid cars are becoming more common these days, and now GAC has a new one in Malaysia. On May 8, GAC joined the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 and brought five new cars to the event. One of the main features was the GAC M8 PHEV, a plug-in hybrid MPV that is now open for pre-orders in Malaysia.

The GAC M8 PHEV is GAC’s first plug-in hybrid MPV, and it was made for people who want a car that can run on both electricity and fuel. It’s built for everyday city use but also works for long-distance trips. Aside from the M8 PHEV, GAC also brought other models to the show, including gas, hybrid, and electric cars. One eye-catching model was the HYPTEC HT, shown in two versions: one with regular doors and one with gullwing doors. It had a bold, tech-heavy design. Also featured was the AION V, a fully electric SUV with long driving range.
At the event, the M8 PHEV was officially launched by GAC and its local dealer partners. GAC brand ambassador Jack Lim was there too. He talked about his visit to GAC’s research center, where he tried out their autonomous driving system and even saw a flying car demo. At the show, he shared his support for the brand’s move into smart cars and new energy. GAC says Malaysia is a big part of their plan in the ASEAN region. With local production, a dealer network, and growing interest in hybrid and electric cars, GAC wants to keep bringing in new models to the region.
Will the GAC M8 PHEV be the next hybrid MPV to reach the PH?
Malaysia gets pre-orders first, but with the GAC M8 PHEV already shown at MIAS, its arrival in PH might be sooner than we think.

The M8 PHEV is not new to Filipino car fans, though. Back in April 2025, GAC Motor Philippines opened its booth at the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) by introducing the M8 PHEV to the public for the first time. While it hasn’t officially gone on sale yet, that early debut could be a clear sign that the local rollout is already in motion—and it might be happening sooner than we think.
