Hyundai introduces new entry-level variant for the Santa Fe

The latest stop of the Hyundai Mobility Experience held at the Festival Mall was the site of a rather surprising launch as Hyundai Motor Philippines unveiled a more affordable version of its Santa Fe crossover.
The new variant is called the Santa Fe GL, and priced at P1,998,000, it’s P412,000 less expensive than the previous entry-level variant, the GLS. To make this variant more affordable, some features have been taken out, but on the outside, it’s business as usual. The GL model retains the overall look of the GLS variant, and yes, that includes the hefty 20-inch alloy wheels.

The biggest changes to the Santa Fe are found inside the cabin. The sunroof has been removed, along with the auto-dimming rear-view mirror and rear sunshades. Gone are the power-adjustable seats, with leather upholstery replaced by a more affordable yet still lovely fabric. Aside from interior amenities, several advanced driver assistance features have also been eliminated. Removed from the GL Santa Fe are lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, or adaptive cruise control. However, it does retain standard cruise control, which should still come in handy for highway driving and could be more preferable to some drivers.
Hyundai has kept the large panoramic display intact, but the 360-degree camera has been swapped out for a basic rear-view unit. On the bright side, it still includes essential safety features like a full set of airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill start assist, tire pressure monitoring, and parking sensors at both the front and rear.
Under the hood, it’s powered by the same naturally aspirated 2.5-liter Smartstream G gasoline engine in the GLS, producing 194 hp and 246 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.
